There is a fairly large amount of business to be dealt with. The work of completing the plans foi St. George's Hospital is being pushed on, and the plans should be ready shortly. Two war memorials will be unveiled to-morrow—the War Memorial Shrine at the Christcliurch Boys' High School, Straven road, Riccarton,; and the Waikari War Memorial. In this issue the Railway Department advertise the running of a cheap excursion to. Dunedin on 1' riclay, February 12th. This gives an opportunity of visiting the Exhibition at a small outlay and with minimum loss of time. A much needed improvement is being effected on the northern side of Hereford street, between Colombo and Manchester streets, where the old stone-block side channel is being reconstructed in concrete. The secondary school cadet noncommissioned officers and officers finished their course of training at Burnham Camp on Thursday. About 350 n.c.o.'s and officers from the other senior cadet companies in the Southern Command will enter camp to-day and remain there for six days. Lieut.-Colonel Thorns is the officer commanding. Yesterday was the hottest day in Dunedin this 'summer (states a Press Association telegram), the maximum thermometer reading being 86 degrees and the' minimum 53. The heat was torrid between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. A change then took place, the wind veering to south-west, and heaw rain falling throughout the afternoon and evening. One of the best-read books in New Zealand is the "New Zealand Motorists' Road Guide." The new (seventh) edition of this indispensable item of a motor-car's equipment has just been issued by Messrs Andrews and Baty. There is not much room for improvement in this handy volume, but the new issue lias been revised and brought quite up-to-date. With the exceedingly detailed itineraries, the maps, and the distance tables, the motorist should be able to avoid most difficulties of route. Dr. Bradshaw will hold a trial of boys' voices at the Cathedral on Tuesday, February 2nd ; at 10 a.m., for the purpose of selecting boys to fill vacant choristerships. Choristers will receive free education at the Cathedral Grammar School as long as they remain in the choir, and for a further period of two years, subject to the continued approval of the Chapter. Beyond this, those who are recommended by the headmaster and approved by the Chapter, will be retained until matriculation.
