A boy named Howard Weenink, aged eleven years, was picked u 0 in the street in Greymoutli on Wednesday evening in an unconscious condition and removed to tho Grey Hospital, where it was found he was suffering from injuries to the head.' Upon regaining consciousness the boy could give no explanation as to what had happened to him, and the affair is still shrouded in mystery. It is surmised that he was knocked down by a bicycle or motor vehicle. Upon enquiry this evening the boy's condition was reported as satisfactory. He is a grandson of Mr P. Weenink, caretaker of the Grey Main School. Main Highways Board. The memliers of the Main Highways Board left to-day for Reefton and Westport. They were accompanied as far as Reefton by several representatives of the • Grey County Council. An inspection was made of the main highway in the northern part of the Grey County, and it is understood that the Board was sympathetic to all tlio requests brought forward by the Grey County Council. Upon arrival at Reefton the Board "was met by representatives of the Inangahua County Council. Tho raising of the Council's contribution for tho maintenance of the Main Highways within the county from £39 last year to £440 for the present year was vigorously protested against. After hearing the Council's side of the case the Board's chairman (Mr F. W. Furkert) pointed out that the

Inaneahua County Council was exceptioiiaTlv well-treated by the Board, and need not expect much better treatment in future as far as the Board was concerned. Mr A. J'lH asked the representatives of the Council if they had any other offer to make, and when they replied in the negative Mr Jull remarked that it appeared to him as if tho Inangahua County Council was onlv playing with the idea of local Government, adding that it would be to the Council's advantage _ if they were absorbed by some neighbouring local body. Yesterday Mr J. "W. Cuttanco presented to Mr F. W. Furkert, C.M.G., petition signed by some hundreds of people in Westland praying for a special grant to undertake the South Westland development scheme.
