BIG CRICKET.

NEW ZEALAND V. VICTORIA HEAVY SCORING (Br CABLX— ?BXS3 ASSOCIATION—COPTBICKT.) (ACSTiALIAS AXB S.Z. CA2LX ASSOCIATIOS.) (Received December 21st. 5.40 p.m.) MEL*BOUENE, December 21. Tor the resumption of tbe match Victoria v. New Zealand, tlie weather was hot with a strong wind. The wicket was good. Patrick was unable to field owing to a split finger. Hendry continued to bat stylishly. Lansdenvno was neat but slow. Ho was smartly caught behind tho wicket after 118 minutes' play. The partnership yielded 20-i runs, of which Hendry made 153. Liddicutt gavo a very bright display. He hit hard, and ninety runs were added in an hour. Five hundred went up for 375 minutes' play. When £75 Hendry survived a unanimous appeal for a catch behind the wicket. It appeared to be a bad decision. Both batsmen obtained many runs owing to faulty placing of the field. When 295 Hendry gavo a difficult chance to Blunt in the slips off Cunningham. Liddicutt was caught at cover by a nice catch. In his sixty-three minutes at the crease he hit six fours, and the forceful partnership added 110 runs. At the luncheon interval it was decided to close the innings. Hendry batted for 323 minutes. He hit 26 fours, and gavo a magnificent display. He holds the record score, against a New Zealand team. Cunningham bowled best, and maintained a good length, but was unlucky at times. Lowry kept wickets well. The fielding generally was of a higjh standard. The full time of the innings was 423 minutes. Blunt gavo a grand display. 510 made tho bowling look cheap, and scored strokes through all parts of the field. Ho scored twico as fast as Worker. The partnership realised. BG. Blunt batted for forty-seven min,Tites, and hit six fours. He was bowled, by a particularly good ball. Worker and Allcott were very s&eady, and tho century came at tho end of 67 minutes' play. Worker, when 37, gavo an easy chance to Mitchell at square leg off Lansdowne, and Allcott, at 24, gavo a chance at the wicket off Liddicutt. Worker, after giving, at 41, a chance to long-off, off Lansdowne, was caught at ■ square leg in the last over before tea. Ho batted 97 minutes, scoring two fours. Allcott went in the firßt over ■after tea to a nice catch in tho outfield, after having batted for fifty-one minutes. The batsmen appeared too eager to Mt the slow bowler Lansdowne, who at one stage had four wickets for 36 runs. More than one batsman committed suicide. Oliver, however, scored four boundaries in one over off Lansdowne, putting on 26 in sixteen minutes by good driving. The scoring rate then became slower, the batsmen's idea being to play for a draw. Oliver and AHoo offered a good defence. Oliver made 50 in fiftyseven minutes. Bowling changes were frequent. Oliver went oat through missing with a wild swipe. He batted for 65 minutes, and scored eight fours. He gave a gqod exhibition, .and the partnership was valuable, adding 76. Alloc was patient, and spent 98 minutes at tho crease.

The New Zealand batting and fielding waa excellent throagbouty but the bowling was mediocre. New Zealand in the second innings made 231 for six wickets, and the game was drawn. Scores: —
