BRITISH BOWLERS.
MANNERISMS ON THE GREENS. (TRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, December 21. Tlie British bowlers played the first match of the tour to-day against rinks representing nine local clubs. They won five of the nine games, their aggregate being 187, against 176. The visitors gave a good display considering that they came off the boat only yesterday. Their good drawing was a. noticeable feature of their play. Their mode of play is different from that of the local bowlers. Number three stands at the head with the skip until his turn conies and sees exactly what to play. All the players, especially the skips, charge up the green after making shots, some of their desperate sprints causing amusement. Whenever a player made art especially good shot all hid comrades gathered round and a bout of handshaking ensued. s Th© excellent sportsmanship of the Britishers was a feature of the games. They said that they "thought the New Zealander were very quiet and undemonstrative at bowls. To-morrow a test match of four rinks j against Auckland will be played.
