BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETS. The Canterbury College Board of Governors met yesterday- afternoon, when there ven present the Hon. G. J. Smith, SLL.C- (chairman), .Mrs W.. H_ Clark, Mass E.. A.. E. Flower., the only nominee for the vacancy-an. the Board,, was declared ejected. Messrs M- Barak and C. E_ Low wrote statins that they would do their utmost to uphold the honour at Canterbury College as Rhodes Scholars. It -ran decided to offer for sale for remoral the wooden building used for woodwork at the present Boys' High School. The High Schools and Hoatels Committee reported that the Minister of Education had approved ot the preparation of plans for & Girls' 'High. School it Avonside, of which only six rooms were to he erected for the pre«ent, also that the opening of the new school at Eiccarton. had been postponed until February next. On the recommendation of the Appointments Committee, it was resolved that the A grade position on the staff of the Christchurch Boys' High School, rendered vacant by tne death of Mr B. J. Thompson, be fUltd by the appointment of Hr H. V. Bowe, who at present holds a B gTade position on the staff; that the consequent B grade vaeancy caused by the appointment of Mr Rowe be filled by the appointment of Mr L. B. Qnartermain. who at present holds a C grade position; and that the two vacant C grado positions caused by the appointment of Mr Qnartermain to o B grade position, and by the resignation of Mr Tait, be filled ty the appointment of Mr S. R. Gamine; and Mr H. 0. Jefcoatc, at present holding D grade positions. Scholarship Awarda. On the recommendation of the Museum and Library Committee, tbe following Scholarships ■were awarded to students ot the School of 'iaTPore Art Scholarship, Ivy Fife; Advanced Art Scholarship, Olivia RpcncerBower and lone Todd; Intermediate Art Scholarship, Florence Atkins and Janet Dixon; Evening Applied Art Scholarship, •Nancv Bolls; Modelling Scholarship, Chrystabel Aitken and Cecil Dunn; Evening Life Scholarship, Douglas McLeod and «*?>£ Blakelcy; Architectural Scholarship, Geoffrey Hobbs. • , A resolution was carried in favour of clos- t ing all departments of the Public Library on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, and January 2nd. , It was reported that no applications hail been received for the position of design and embroidery teacher at the School of Art The College Committee reported that u had been decided to recommend that the third Thursday of the session 1926 be known as Commemoration Day, and that, with a view to making public recognition of benefactions to the College, a public meeting be held in the College Hall on the cvenmg of that day.
