oMim. At the Oinihi School break-up on Thursday night, Aleu Sloss. on behalf of the school boys, presented Mr Jones with a handsome pocket knife. At the same time Eunice Hall, on behalf of the senior rrjrls.' ajid Mabel Sloss, on behalf of the juniors, presented Mrs Jones with two pretty dishes. Both the recipients briefly responded. OXFORD. This year the secondary department of the Oxford District High School has printed the third volume of its magazine, "Piki'arero." It is interesting to note that the whole of the work has been done by the pupils themselres, the printing and binding being done by the boys. One of the features of the magazine is wood-cuts. CUST. The Cust School had a visit from the Fernside schoolboys on Tuesday who came to. try conclusions at cricket. The visitors batted first and had a lead on the lirst innings. The , end was very exciting, but the Cust boys by forceful hitting just managed to win on time. A few of the Fernside girls came also, and played a rounders match with the local girls. Afternoon tea was provided by the parents of the Cust children. A pleasant little function took place after tea, when Mollie Gillan, captain of the Basket Ball team presented a bottle of perfume and a case of handkerchiefs to Mrs Gist as a token of the team's appreciation of her kindness in attending to afternoon tea on the occasion of matches during the year. Mrs Clist suitably replied. A very entertaining children's concert was given in the Presbyterian Sunday School on Wednesday evening in aid of Sunday School funds. There were a good number of parents and friends present, and the function was a very successful one. Rev. Bruce Banncrman occupied the chair. The following was the programme submitted: Organ solo, Alice Way 1 and ;'chorus, "Daniel's Band"; solo, Miss Mclnnes; recitation. Ford McKenzie; violin solo, Mr J. AKAROA. At tho last meeting of the executive of the Akaroa Golf Club, the captain, Dr. A. F. Cowan, presided over a good attendance. The treasurer submitted a statement • showing that the club would be faced witli liabilities amounting to some £6O by the end of January. It was decided' to make a special effort to liquidate the debt, and after some discussion, three suggestions made by one of the lady members were approved. Brieflv they comprise a, dance on December 28th, a "gift shop" on the grounds on the occasion of tho, athletic sports, and the sale of produce in Christchurch.'i Mesdames A. F. Cowan, F. C. Newton, and Misses B. Jacobson and Jeaiiette LeLievre, were appointed a sub-committee to arrange details in connexion with the evening function. The congregation of the St. Patrick s Roman Catholic Church held a very successful bazaar in their schoolroom and grounds on Thursday last. There was a large attendance, and good business was clone at the various stalls; The proceeds are to be devoted to general church fuuds. The following ladies had charge of the stalls :—Produce: Mesdames Felix Brocherie and Peter Cunningham ; work: Misses E. LeLievre and R. Narbey; sweets: Misses Brocherie and Louise Kearney; bran tub: Mrs Hughie LeLievre and Miss Brown; refreshments: Mrs K. L. LeLievre and Misses Walker and Wilkin. At the last meeting of the Akaroa Borough-Council, the chairman of the works committee, Mr Colin Stewart, submitted Mr A. Dudley Dobson's de-. tailed report on his inspection of the water supply extension pipes. Mr Dobson also specified the requirements for the necessary connexions. He recommended that the manesmann pipes be woll coated with the special composition supplied by the contractor. The report was adopted, satisfaction being expressed that -the borough, at last, was to be thoroughly up-to-date in respect to its water supply. At the same meeting a letter from the Akaroa County Council was read, stating that tho Council had, as far as it knew, no title or jurisdiction over the Green Point Memorial, that marks the site of tie historic hoisting of the British Flag' in August. 1840. Old Borough Council-* lors, who.had spent long years in the town, stated that they well remembered the monument being erected as the oiitcome of the efforts of then County Chairman, the late Mr F. A. Anson. It was decided to inform the County that the Borough regarded tho site as being under the former's care.

OKAIN'S BAY. The monthly meeting of the Okain'u Bar Road Board was held on Monday. Present: Messrs J. It. Thackcr (chairman), P. E. Moore, W. Robinson, S. Gilbert, and B. J. Bailey. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr C S. F. Moore, who had for a very" long period been clerk to the Board. Mr E. W. Spurr wrote asking for a progress payment of £22 on his contract for removing shingle from the river. The application was granted. An alteration to the rate roll from Mr "W. H. Barkle to Mr P. J. Waghorn was agreed to. With a view to obtaining the subsidy on Herriot's road, Little Akaloa, Mr S. Gilbert said he would ask Herriot Bros, to complete the metalling of the road as soon as possible. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote forwarding copies of the "Rating Act" and "Local Elections and Polls Act," also extracts from the "Finance Act, 1925." authorising expenditure by local authorities in respect of a visit of the U.S.A: Fleet and regarding increased benefits payable to widows and children under the "Local Authorities Superannuation Act, 1908." The clerk gave notice that at the January meeting it would be necessary under Section 15 of the ' 'Shops and Offices Act, 1921-24'' to fix the statutory half-holiday in the Board's district for the year 1926. The foreman's report for November showed tiiat the men had been employed during the whole month on Big Hill road. The clerk was instructed to write to Mr G. H. CCallaghan, who was retiring from the position of clerk to the Akaroa County Gotmcil, thanking him for his assistance to the Board's officers, regret at his leaving, and expressing to him, the Board's good wishes for aonoees in.
