The Tribunal ordered the execution of eiglit persons for disobeying the order to wear European hats, instead of the fez. Forty-eight were sent to penal servitude. [A previous cable message stated that public feeling against the Bill forbidding the Turks to wear the fess was growing in intensity and that violent encounters resulting' in less of life had taken place in several Turkish towns, necessitating the Government sending a warship to Rizeh, on the Black Sea.]
