NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.
Tides. It win be high tide on the beach this morning at 6.46 a:m., and in the river at 8.14 a.m., and to-moTrow at 7.42 aJD. and 9.46 a.m. respectively. The Chnrcb.es. Holy Communion 'will be celebrated at both morning services at St. Faith's to-morrow, and a carol service in the evening, the vicar preaching. At the evening service at North Beach schoolroom tho Kev. W. F. Knovles will preach. At the Methodist Church the Eev. F. T. Bead vrill conduct the service at 11 a.m. and the Eev. A. Peters at 6.30. There will be special Christmas music at both services. Visitors vrill be heartily welcomed. Special Christmas services will be held at the-Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The preacher will be the Eev. W. Bower Black, LL.B. The Sunday School prizes will also bo given out. Central Gala. The Gala Executive Committee met in tho Council Chambers on Wednesday evening, the Mayor (Mr J. Gamble) presiding. Tho chairman reported that the proposal to hold a beach carnival on January 16th was meeting with the unanimous approval of all concerned. It was agreed that tho money collected at the open-air entertainment held on November 12th should be used for the purposes of the gala. Mr ,T. H. Shaw was appointed stalls supervisor. Boy Scouts. The local troops of Boy Scouts are having a field day to-day. "Tho Messiah." As notified by advertisement in these columns Handel's oratorio "The Messiah" will be performed in St. Faith's Church on Tuesday evening, raider the direction of the organist and choirmaster, Mr L. C. Stanford. The soloists will be: Soprano, Miss P. Leighton; contralto, Miss V. M. Thompson; tenor, Mr F. J. Parson, and bass, Mr W. J. Spratt. Personal. Mrs Barclay Dennis, of George street, left on Thursday for Auckland. Beach Amusements. Thanks to the efforts of the Summer 1 Programme Committee, there will be quite a number of attractions and amusements for the public in evidence on the beach and esplanade this summer season. There are already erected, and in course of erection, two large merry-go-rounds, an Ocean Wave swing, miniature railway, and two sky gliders, while applications have been received from other amusement vendors for sites on the foreshore.
