DICKENS RECITAL.

MR- AND MRS WINTER HALL. ' A joint recital by Mr and Mrs Winter Hall will bo given in the Theatre Royal on December 2.2nd. Both the artists are -well known to many Christchurch people, because this is their home town, where they spent their early years prior to their departure for the wider sphere of the United States. Mrs Hall, who was formerly Miss Katie Young, is a moat accomplished pianist, and she has, if anything, increased her technical and interpretative skill during her residence in Hollywood. Her contribution to the recital will include a Brahms "Rhapsody," a movement from the "Eroica" Sonata by MacDowell; "La Gathedralo Engloutie," a. remarkable descriptive composition by Debussy; Russian musio arranged by Liadow; and compositions by Palmgren, Grenados, and Chopin. She will also play a pianoiorte accompaniment to Mr Winter Hall's recital of Dickens' 3 "Christmas Oaroi." 'lhis accompaniment consists of classical music, which has been specially selected and arranged by Mrs Hall for the purposo of the recital. Mr Hall is a wellknown figure in picture drama and is an actor of ability. He brings the best of his technical skill to the recital. He has. specially, culled from the story the very best in passages of descriptive narration and dramatic climax. He introduces the audience to Scrooge and the other characters of Dickens's immortal work, making each live, move, and speak on the stage. The climax of the story is the conversion of Scrooge, who starts en his mission of doing good, and enjoys every Christmas. The recital is peculiarly appropriate to the season, and it may be said that all too little of this class of entertainment is heard of in New Zealand. " The box plan is at The Bristol.
