RUGBY. LINWOOD CLUB. i The annual smoke concert of the Lin-wood Rugby Football Club was held on Saturday evening, Mr F. D. Kesteven presiding over a very large attendance, including Mr A. Dcy, president of the Canterbury Rugby Union, and other members of. the executive. A lengthy toast list was . honoured, and items were contributed by the following: Vocal, Messrs W. McMillan,' F. Dnnshea, H. Wrighfc W. Cotton, and Vichtlager; instrumental, Mr A Weston; recitation, Mr A. Dey; haka, Messrs B. McCleary and W. Elvy. Mr E. H. George acted as accompanist. During, the evening medals were presented to I. Miller, most improved player in the first-grade, and to C. Hearn, most improved forward. Mr W. Shaw, coach of the fifth grade team, also received a medal. On behalf of the club, Mr A. Barrett (club captain) presented the president, Mr Kesteven, •with a framed photograph of the fifth grade team.
LEAGUE. ENGLISH UNION. RESIDENTIAL QUALIFICATION. (BY CABLE—PBJSSS ASSOCIATION— COr-TBIGHIO (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) LONDON*, November 27. The Manchester Rugby League Council meeting has refused to alter its decision respecting the qualification of the New Zealander Kice, who asked for reconsideration of his,case. The Council agreed to. include Rice's eighteen months' residence in Canada, but stipulated that he .must complete two years by residing here for six months. A communication was received from the New Zealand League accepting its terms for next season's ' tour, and thanking the Council for its arrangements.
