♦- ■ . • NEW REGULATIONS. se\v regulations for manual and technical instruction have .just been gazetted, and will. come into operation on-February Ist of next year. - This is the first general rescission of these regulations that has been made for a number of years. It provides for the insertion of a new class in the case of women of Division I. and the men and women of Division 11. The increment for women in Division 11. has been increased from £8 to £lO. while the general salaries of teachers in Division 11. .have been raised by a flat rate of approximately. £5, and in some cases more. The system of payment .of overtime has been altered from the hours basis, and instead of payment being'made for hours in excess of 28 and 30 respectively, the new system provides for overtime in excess of 10, half-days (each of two hours) worked in each week. The appointment of vice-principals in cases where there are more than 800 working hours is provided for, while the conditions governing the appointment of managers have been altered. Previously the Department paid capitation on the basis of attendance of children, but this has now been altered, and up to 30 per cent, of the teachers' salaries will.be paid by the Department. This affects manual classes, and brings them into line with techniealjClasses. 'The conditions of appointment of student teachers for manual classes have been brought into the line of the primary schools.
