THIEVES BUSY.
AUCKLAND SHOPS ROBBED. (PBES3 A93OCIATZOH TSLJSGRAH.) AUCKLAND, November 24. Robbers were busy in Auckland during Monday night, no fewer than four premises in different parts of the city and suburbs receiving their attention. The shop of White Brothers, tobacconists, Penrose, was broken into, an'd tobacco and cigarettes to the value of £lO were taken. Premises in Shortland street were also visited by burglars. The temporary bar of the Commercial Hotel was entered and cash amounting to about £lO was taken from the till. Six bottles cf spirits and some cigarettes were also nemoved. Entry in this case was comparatively easy, as the building in which the bar is located is partly demolished, and the intruders were able to get into a rear passage Jeading to the bar. By breaking the glass of the door they were able to enter the bar. As a safe«nard they barricaded the door leading to Shortland street, and it was th;. fact that gave the first.indication this morning that the premises had been entered. Kcaly's book shop, adjoining, was also raided during the night, probably by the same person 3. Entry was gained by" using a ladder to climb to the first floor where the rear door was opened, again bv breaking a glass panel. Fountain pens to the value of several pounds, and some novels, were taken. An attempt was made during the night to force the back door of the shop of Avory and Mearns, grocers, in Eden-! dale road, but without success. !
