ASHBURTON. PERSONAL. Mr F. "\V. Watt proceeded to I>unedin yesterday to represent the Ashburton Hospital Board on the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee. General News. A map of the Canterbury Province, compiled from surveys up to 1873. has been presented to the Ashburton Borough Council by Mr C. Tucker. A. and P. Association. ' A meeting of the General Committee of the Ashburton A. and P. Association was held yesterday, wheu the president, Mr A. Brown, presided. The Otago A. and P. Association WTote asking the Association to support a resolution it was forwarding to the Minister, of Internal Affairs, asking that A. and P. Associations be exempt from having to obtain permits to conduct boys' and girls' races at shows. The chairman said the resolution probably referred to pony races. No action was taken. Reporting upon the result of the recent show, the chairman said he was very gratified with the result. The sheep and cattle exhibits were of a very high standard, but in the horse section, the entries were short of those •received du/ing. reqent -years. Jt was hard to say whether the decrease could be attributed to the severe winter" or to the advent of the tractor. He wished to compliment the secretary (Mr J. B. Christian) upon the manner in which he had carried out his duties. He also wished to thauk the commit-tee-men vpon the smooth running of all the arrangements, and the Press for their publication of reports. It was resolved to refer to tho incoming committee a suggestion that part of the grounds be. set apart' for members' cars on'show days. On the motion of the chairman it was resolved to write thanking tho Advantjo Ashburton Association for tho assistance it had given in advertising the show and for the manner in which it was beautifying the town. The Ashburton County Kugbr SubUnion's lease of tho Association's grounds was extended to cover the whole of each year. Two hew members were elected. Mr J. Findlay said Mr. D. W. Westenra, whose horse had won the championship in th© harness and saddle sections, had suggested that one horse should not be allowed to carry off the championship of two classes. Mr H. Morris said that if a horse was good* enough to win the champion ribbon of two classes it should bo permitted to do so. It was decided to refer the matter to the incoming committee.

A large number of friends and neighbours were present and the evening was spent in music and dancing. A recitation was given by Mr O. Evison. Music for the dancing tvas .supplied by McDonald's Orchestra and extras were played by Miss May McDonald CBankside) and Messrs K Pye and C. Chamberlain. Mr J. Allen was M.C. After a dainty supper had been partaken of, Mr C.Evison. on behalf of the company, thanked Mr and Mrs McDonald for their hospitality. METHVEN. At the fortnightly meeting of the. Loyal 'Methr/en Lodge, No. 7620, Bro. Noble, N.G., was in the chair. Correspondence was received from the secretary of the Ashburton. district, asking] the lodge to supply a candidate for degree work on the occasion of the Grand Master's visit on November! 27th; also, to-forward name of officer to act as Guardir.il on the same occasion. Notification was received from medical officers declaring two brothers on the sick funds of the lodge. It was decided to secure Bro. F. J. Newnian's coach to journey to Ashburton on November 27th, and it was requested that as meny members make the visit to Ashburton. as possible. A visit was received from Bros. Pritchard, D-.D.G.M., Ashburton, and Paton, Loyal Phillipstown Lodge, and they were given a hearty welcome. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows :—N.G., Bro. E. J. Bladder ; V.G., Bro. D. HrJe; elective secretary, Bro. H. J. Fryer. The election of minor officers was left in abeyance till next lodge meeting. At a meeting of the Citizens' Committee of the Methven Bov Scouts, the chairman. Mr S. Buckett. presented Mrs Tooley with a lady worker's badge, as a small token appreciation for her seiwices as instructor in first aid to the Scouts. Mrs'Toolev suitably acknowledged the gift. At" an examination by Dr. "W. H. MoKee, 15 members of the troop were examined in first aid woyk, and all passed the required test. T'liis reflected much credit to the boys, and Mrs Tooley, who instructed them.
