INOCULATION OF INFANTS.

Dr. William I'ark, director of the Now York Health Department Bureau of Laboratories, ami Professor of Haetcriology and Hygiene at New York Medical College, announces that, following- upon favourable results attain eJ with Professor Calmette's process o:' in'munisation against tuberculosis upon rabbits and guinea pigs, the teats will be continued upon calves and monkey*. This will bo done with a view to introducing a method for the treatment of children. Dr. Leon Caltuette. AssistantPirecior of the Pasteur Institute, devised a process for inoculating babies, three days after birth, with a living strain <>;' bovine tuberculosis germs which have been weakened or attentuated through culture in equine or bovine bile. Professor C'almotte inoculated two thousand infanta iu Paris, an.l none contracted tuberculosis. The need for such inoculation, which Dr. Park hopes will-be practicable after :i further year's test, is especially emphasised in >iew Y'ork, where a considerable number of infanta are born every year in households where adults suffer from this disease.
