RECOGNITION OF LONG SERVICE
Since the definite announcement was made that the Hon. George Witty, M.L.C., did not intend contesting the Riccarton seat at the rcceot General Elections, a strong committee has had in hand arrangements for a presentation to Mr Witty in recognition of his long and valued services to the constituency. ._ . In order to make the function as representative as possible sub-committees, were formed in the different centres, and these, and the main committee have met with considerable support. The date of the presentation has been delayed in order to fit in with the engagements of the .f rime Minister who, on Saturday, telegraphed that he would be pleased to attend the presentatidh, the date of which has been fixed for the evening of Wednesday, December 2nd. The committee has invited all the members of Cabinet, and also all the local members of Parliament, and the gathering, which is to be held in the tearooms on the Riccarton racecourse (kindly placed at the disposal of the committee by the Canterbury Jockey Club) gives promise of being • a most successful and representative one*
