PLYING FOR HIRE.

NEW CITY COUNCIL RULE. REGISTRATION PLATES FOR TAXIS. A suggestion that vehicles plying for hire iu Christchurch should carry additional registration plates to those issued by the Government, to indicate that they had also been licensed by the Christchurch City Council, was a suggestion put forward by the By-laws and Finance Committee at last night's meeting of the City Council.

The committee in its report considered that in the licensing of vchiclos which plied for hire, an identification plate in addition to that issued by the Government, should be affixed to all such vehicles, with a view to indicating that they were licensed by the Council. A regulation in cenncxion with the matter had been drafted by the City Solicitor, and should be adopted by the Council as a resolution. The committee recommended that instead of the number-plates used in the past, a round disc be used with the word "'taxi" or "omnibus," ao the case might be, written thereon with tho number following. The recommendation was adopted.
