NOTES ON THE RACING. The Nelson Trotting Cub concluded its Annual Meeting to-day in fine but windy weather. There was a much larger attendance than on the first day, while the track was faster and eome excellent times were reg'stered. Prior to the first race the Judicial Committee met to consider alterations made by the handica-pper after the publication of the handicaps, which . were posted at the secretary's office. In the Pioneer Handicap; Van Rich waa en 12yds, and in the Tasman Handicap Royal Audubon was on 36yds. The handicapper stated that a' mistake had been made in dictating the handicaps, and he corrected them to Van B'ch' 108 yds and Boyal Audubon .60yds. These were printed in the official hook, but the committpe decided that the original handicaps must stand, and Van Rich started fiom 12vda and Royal Audubon frcm S6yds. Lunsdale was ecratched in the Pioneer Handican, leaving nine starters. The locaHyowned three-year-old Marshal Neil by Neil Dennis from Rose Alma was installed a warm favourite with- Van Rich the best backed of the others. Marshal Ne'l who •was making hie first appearance in public was allowed plenty of time to find his feet, and at the end of a mile was running third. His driver, L. F. Berkett, then asked him to move along, which he did, and easily holding hie own, went ,on to win without being extended. Florrie Huon paced a solid race into second place, and paid a useful dividend. Van Bich showed useful speed and looked Jike finishing in the money, but three furkngs. from home hrok© and not only sett,'ed his chance but also that of Totara Jack. Nota Bene made a poor showing, while the efforts of Guy Logan, Vikota, and Glendora were disappointing . All started in the Tasman Handicap, and in vi T ew of hie favourable treatment, Rcyal Audubon was favourite and backed down to a short price, but he was easily beaten into second place by the Blenheim-owned and trained Greywood, an aged gelding by Ardcairn from a Young Wildwood. mare, who returned his supporters • dividend well over a quarter of a century. Royal Audubon had every ohance, but had nothing left in reserve at the finish. Asia did not show much speed, but the solid manner in which she trotted carried her into third place, ltbthmoor made the best showing of the others, hut never looked like a winner. Revolia effected' a surprise by winning the Progress Handicap from eight others and paid a double figure dividend The winner has done a lot of raoing, most of it being on the western side of the Island, where she has met with a fair measure of success. Bingen Lad paced a much better race than en the first day, and -finished in second place. Only heade .separated the Nelson Bingen gelding and. Bevolia. Both the first and second horsea were favourably treated as compared with the first day, the winner being let up 3sec and Bingen Lad 2sec. The favourite, Sungieam, reared up twice at the start and fell. Eventually he went away, but broke more than once during the running of the race, and finally finished in the ruck. , Florrie Huon was always in a gocd position. It was her second race for the day and she d'.d not stay on as well as expected. Smr.thfield was prominent for a mile, but neither Van Rich nor Wineberry threatened danger. The Nelson Trotting Cup was a. fine race, Peter Eect was - favourite and carried twice as much 'as Lottie Advance, who waa next in demand With Black Cloud the beet backed of the others. Honey wood and Dome were a'ow to move, and Peter Elect waa the first to. show out from Why Worry, Great Form, Lottie Advance, and Arran Chief. Passing the stand the first time the field closed up, the order being practically the same with the 'exception that Honeywcod had moved up into fourth place. As the field entered the back straight, Peter Elect dropped back into third place and Great Form led Why Worry with Lottie Advance at the head of Cloud, Honeywood, and Silk Thread. At the entrance to the straight Great Form was etill in charge, followed by Why Worry, Lottie Advance, Peter Elect, and Black Cloud, and in a good finish Peter Elect outetayed hie opponent© and won comfortably by a length from Why Worry, who was eight lengths in front of Black Cloud. Then came Lottie Advance, Great Form, and Honeywood. The winner, Peter Elect, was successful in saddle on the first dav. He is a solid pacer and is capable o! iutnroving. The race waa run' to suit Why Wo«ry and the daughter of Wildwood Jun. and Monees etayed cut the journey well. Black Cloud stayed on'well and defeated Lottie Advance for third money. The «istance was too.far for" Honeywood, Great F.M-m, and Arran Chief. Dome went a poor race and Silk Thread did not show up a« well as on tho first day On'y fcur horses started in the Appleby Handicap. Nellie Parson, Lady Ballin, Blue Glen, and Proud Joyce, and in that order they were backed. Lady Ballin waa rn" a generous mood for once. She began In great style and soon opened up a big gap from the rest of the field, and won easing up by twenty lengths in II 2-ssec better than her handicap. Proud Joyce beat the rest of the field just ae easily as Lady Bat!in beat her. Blue Glen failed to stay, and the favourite, Nellie Parson, mixed hex gait for two furlongs and gave her supporters a poor run for their money. After several failures the Huttrown*d and trained mare M*ry Brown was seen in a favourable light in" the Improvers* Handieao, and defeated a useful field of nine saddle horses. Clive Bell made most of the early running but tired over the last quarter of t. mile and had to be hard ridden to beat Sea Nymph, for second money. The favourite Erin's Child wa« a poor fourth. Lady Ballin and Audubon Patch refused to go away correctly, and Linda Dillon and Proud Joyce were outo'assed. The field, in the Foxhill Handicap was a weak one and resulted in a win for Some Jaaz, an aged donl>le-9wted horse by Don Pronto from Cashier Queen, this being his fourth 'start at the meeting. Prom start 'to finish Some Jass kept at the trotting gait which was largely responsible for hie success. Taipoiti lost a lot of ground in the first furlong, and again two furlongs from home but she had sufficient left in reserve to best all Vat the winner. Caterpillar was too sore to do himself justice, and the rest of the field gave a mixed display of trotting and finished a long way ■behind the placed hossee. ■ The day's raoing conoladed with the Farewell Handicap, and after beginning slowly the favourite, Bingen Lad, put in a wellsustained run over the last two furlonf* and scored most decisively from Lunsdale, Lottie Advance, and Bit* Bye. As in the Progress Handicap, Bingen Sad showed a nice turn of speed, and is more than useful ever short

bourses. Lunsdale began in great style and endeavoured to win all the. way, but tired over the la»t hundred yards. Lottie Advance and Bits. Rye weve always well p'.aced and finished thin?, and fourth" respectively. Why Worry, dent Form, and Denver Wood were prominent for four furlongs, but Dome, Jean Vue, and Drone made a poor showing. FORBURY PARK T.C.
