NEW CHURCH.

DEDICATION AT NEW BRIGHTON. The: first service held in the new Anglican' Church of St. Faith it-New Brighton was attended by, a congregation which filled all the permanent seating accommodation and the formsbrought in by the churchwardens, and overflowed into the porch and outside the main entrance. The dedication service was conducted on Saturday afternoon by Dean Carrington, Bishop's Commissary. The service was most impressive. The churchwardens met the Commissary at the main door, and requested him, on behalf of the people of the district, to dedicate the church. In accordance with the ceremonial on such occasions, the Dean signified his assent to the request, and proceeded with the visiting clergy and. churchwardens towards the Holy- Table. Many neighbouring parishes were represented, and the clergy following Dean Carrington included Archdeacons Haggitt and Taylor, Canons Mutter and Galwey, and the Revs. Fraer, Hervev, Knowles, Leach, Nanson, Norris, Maiden, Pritchett, Smyth, Tobin, Wright, Inwood, and Mathias. The two last-named are ex-vicars of New Brighton. , , The Rev. F. T. Read (Methodist) was also present. A special service, with hymns and Psalms appropriate to the occasion, was then held- : After the singing of Psalm 122, the Commissary, standing at the Holy Table, asked for "the blessing of God on the undertaking of setting apart the* edifice as' a place of worship-: Thevßcv., C. ? Maclaverty,. vicar, of New- Brighton; preached the sermon. A up in aid of the building fund realised approximately £SO. _ After the service,, afternoon tea was dispensed at the ■ Vicarage, and the New Brighton Band played selections. Many people took the opportunity to make an inspection of the church. It is situated at the corner of Nelson and Hawke streets, it is built in pure Gothic style of Garland's blue stqne, and light Oamaru stone, and the altar, pulpit, .and lectern are of English oak. The altar was provided by .the Mothers' Union and Girls'- Guild, the pulpit by Mrs E. T. McCrcnnor, and the lectern by Mr A. I. de Roo. The remainder of the furnishings are : in figured riiuu. Messrs Collins and Harman, of Christchurch. were the architects and Messrs P. Graham and Son the builders.
