Lord Burnham, in a letter to Mr Bruce, covering some of the principal rosults of the recent Imperial Press Couforencc, and containing copies of tho resolutions adopted, urges Mr Bruce, in the interests of the Empire, to assist in carrying the decisions into operation. Regarding the securing of better and cheaper cable communication, he says: —"Your Government can do a great deal through its representatives on the Pacific Cable Board by direct representations to the British Government and in other ways to promote tho ends sought to be attained." Dealing with the cable terminal rates, he says he had always held the view that there was no justification for the Government charging for services it did not render, and he asks Mr Bruce to come into line with New Zealand and the Mother Country in t'"3 matter, and review the position 011 equitable business ifines. "To make a profit of three hundred per cent, on the actual cost of the -work involved,", he said, "s#ems, to say the least, to be excessive."
