ASHBURTON BRANCH. A meeting of the Ashburton members of the Canterbury Automobile Association was held last evening, Mr W. Tage presiding. The chairman gave a resume of the business transacted at the annual meeting. A'shburton members did not know what business was being transacted iu Chriatchurch. He was surprised to find that the Association had beautiful rooms for the convenience of members. The rules provided thaf; Ashburton or other branches may elect their own officers and chairman. Ashburton had nbout 300 members, so it was therefore entitled to three delegates, whereas it had only one. Branches had power to spend up to i 5 without tho consent of headquarters. Mr Page said he was confident that the Association had done good work. Mr F, M. Spellcrberg said there were 3000 motor vehicles iu the Ashburton district, and he considered the branch should have at least 1000 members. Mr K. P. V. Sealey said if they had 1000 members, Ashburton would be better on their own.

Mr Page explained that Ashburton's boundaries extended from Rangitata to Rakaia, and from the hills to the sea. H was decided to form a local branch, and tho following officers wore elected:—Chairman, Mr W. Page; vice-chairman, Mr K. P. V. Sealey; secretary. Mr J. Bathgate; hon. treasurer, Mr J. McElhinney; committee, Messrs V. M. Spellerberg, J. M. Wilkie, J. V. do Beer, V. V.'. Russell, and J. Bishop; delegates to the Canterbury Automobile Association, Messrs Russell, Page, and Wilkie. On behalf of tho Gala Committee, Mr J. Henderson asked if the branch would be prepared to. supply a number of cars for the purpose of enabling inmates of the Old Men's Home and veterans to take part in the gala procession. The provision of an information bureau •was held over. __
