The engineer reported that owing to the completion of tho main structure of the Ghdstono Pier inner wharf, it would very soon bo found impossible to employ profitablv the who'.o of the. construction and repair ■ pang. It would bo necessary to dispense with the cervices of throe carpenters and fix labourers. Tho apt ion of the engineer 13 the matter was endorsed. It was agreed to send a wreath to tba Cathedral on Trafalgar Day. A grant of £5 53 for the Eanneroalr. Home was approved. The feeing of the date for the next meeting was left in tho hands of the chairman. Exhibition Grant. A deputation was Tocoived from the Canterbury Provincial Committee of tho New Zealand and South Se3s Exhibition, asking the Board for a donation towards tho cost of setting up tho Canterbury court.. Mr W. Machin (chairman of the committee) said that it had nearly £SOOO in band. Wellington had £7OOO, and hoped to get another £IOOO, while Southland had £IO,OOO. It was hoped that tie Harbour Board realising the importance of tho court to the trade, and commerce of the province, wou!d see its way clear to make a donation of £2OO. Mr Walter assured tho deputation that it was the desire of tho Board to see that Canterbury organised a fitting display. Subsequently, on a resolution moved by Mr Holland and seconded by Mr Galh:a:tb, the Board decided to make a grant of £3OO.
