In the sixth round Vercoe had Clinton almost at his mercy en tho ropes twice, and the gong was a welcome sound to' the Pa-imerston lad. Clinton made a. good recovery, and mixed things in the seventh and eighth. In the ninth both men were fighting fast, and just as the gong sounded, Verccc fell squirming. It did n-.t appear a? though Clinton had hit low with his hands, but apparently his knee, had come into play inadvertently. The referee pronounced the fight over, and after a conference with three doctors, who examined Verooe, gave tho decision against Clinton on a foul. Vercoe was leading on points at the time.
