BEEKEEPERS.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The Canterbury branch of the National Beekeepers' Association met on Saturday night, Mr G. T. Thurston presiding over a fair attendance. A letter from Mr G. 11. Sargeant, Apiary Instructor, asking for definite information aB to what the Association was doing in respect of exhibits for the Dunedin Exhibition and the sale of honey at the Exhibition, was referred (o the subcommittee dealing with Exhibition matters. Mr 11. Ecroyd reported that Mr G. 11. Uolford had spoken to him regarding the honey exhibit at the Exhibition, and had stated that it was not desired that there should be a large display of honey in tins, as it would interfere with the effect of the panorama of Canterbury. Mr HoKord had suggested a few tins of honey and one or two observation hives, lie (Mr Kcroyd) had not expressed any opinion on this suggestion, as the Association had been assured that it would have II ">oft of space placed at its disposal. Mr Ilolford had indicated that if a largo display of tinned honey was to he made it would have to bo made in either tho Ashburton or South CanteM>ur.v bays. It was decided to ascertain what the exact position is in respect of the honey exhibit. Mr .Sargeant wrote that he was under the necessity oC postponing the lecture he was to have given at Saturday night's meeting. The chairman Baid that this involved extending the Association's indoor season for another fortnight. The Social Committee. Tlio Social Committee reported having held its first meeting, at which a number of details were settled and a sub-committee was set. up to make enquiries regarding a suitable hall in which to hold social gatherings. The objects of the committee were agreed upon—first to encourage social intercourse amongst members, and second to assist the Association financially when necessary The Teport was adopted. Mr Ecroyd moved that the committee should have full control of its funds. The motion was agreed to. Proposed Field Day. . The chairman brought up the question of a field day and suggested that it should be held on Labour Hay. Mr Best suggested that if possible the field day should be held in an apiary in a countrv district, so that country members could get the benefit of meeting their iellow-membirs and of hearing the experts. The question of holding a field day and the locality thereof was referred to which is to report at next meeting. Voting at Conference.
