BOROUGH COUNCILS.

RAXGIORA. ■' The Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (,Mr R. Mcintosh), and Crs. C. I. Jennings, F. HorI rell, R. Bailey, C. S. Avers, I. M. Allen, |J. Lindi>n, J. B. c'athcrwcod, and J. F. 1 Feron. Thr State- Fire Office- wrote forwarding £1250 for the insurance claim on the Town Hall. Tho Town Ciork reported that the amount paid in bank interest fox the past month vra3 en!y 2s. Messrs Helraore and van Asch wrote requesting formal consent to tho transfer of a piece of land from Ivory's property for a road, already formed, to the &.'. and P. Association, so that it could be gazetted. It was decided to pay i"26 14s, being the amount levied on the Council as its quota towards tie 2\"ew Zealand and South Seas Exhibition. Cr. Catherwcod reported on a visit of inspection to the* borough reserve at Lyndhurst, and it was decided to vote £lO to the lessee for necessary repairs on tho estate. The chairman of the Finance Committee reported that the money for tho Town Clerk's house had been jAtained from the Tramway Board, at 5J per oent., and that & contract had been let to Breach and Rowland at £IOBO for tho building. It was decided to pay over tho purchase' money, amounting to £lll6, to the trustees of the Dudley Park estate. Tho application of Messrs Breach and Rowland for permission to carry out alterations to Messrs Hickmott'3 buildings in His-h street was granted. The clerk reported that no application had* been received for the position of caretaker of the baths. Tho application of the gas manager for a purifying shed at. the gasworks was referred to the Cas Committee for a report. It was decided to remove the electric •street light at the High efcreefc railway crossing and suspend it in the middle of th« street. Complaints having been received about the bad state of the approach at tho north end of Church street South, it waa resolved to refer the subject to the Works Committee for o. report.
