HYDRO-ELECTRICITY FOR IRELAND. POWER-STATION ON SHANNON. (BS CABLE—rRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALUS AND K.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received August 16th, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, August 15. A Berlin mcssago states that tfye electrical firm of Seimcns and Schuckcrt has contracted wTcli tlio I\eo State Govcrmncot to construct a hydro-elec-tric works oil th© river Shannon to supply light and power for a large area of Ireland. Tho Berlin correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" states that the Seirpen and Seluickert agreement provides for four generating stations with afl aggregate of 00,000 horse-power and a distribution of 288 million kilowatt hours annually to all parts of the Free State. A Dublin message confirms, 'the agree, inent. It states that the preliminary portion of the scheme involves an es. penditure of £2,000,000. Tho total cost will be £5,200,000, for which thft whole of the Free State will be supplied with electric lighting and power.
