TO KIDNAP MARY PICKFORD ACCUSED MAN CONVICTED. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (RECTEE'S TSLEG3AMS.J (Received August 14th, 10.20 p.m.) iSAN FRANCISCO, August 13. A telegram from Los Angeles says that Claude Holcome C. Stephens was convicted by the Superior Court of conspiring to kidnap Mary Pickford and hold her for 200,000 dollars ransom. The third! defendant was acquitted. The men were arrested last May. After what tho police declare was a series of conferences, tlie.y discussed the kidnapping of a film celebrity. Mary Pickford was agreed upon because she had 200,000 dollars in her own name. Before the plans matured the men were arrested. Sentence was deferred.
