FARMERS' UNION.
MID-CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE. At a meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union, held yesterday, Air J. Brown presided. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr J. C'arr in his recent illness, A cheque for £5 v.as forwarded by the Ealing branch of the Union for the'executive's funds. .«■¥* -? 1 - Wi «s. w '»o ha* "l-ft the Hinds district, thereby severing his connexion with • that branch, was granted a seat upon the executive for the present vcar. It wns intimated that Mr A. McKenzie had bem appointed chairman of the Hinds branch in his stead. Mr Angus Horsey, who is at present on an extended tour of America and the British Isles, wrote stating that lie had not been able to yet anything fresh for the Union The Inter continued that farmers in Canada were not having a very prosperous time I The chairman stated that while in America ! Hall j (the executive's representative) stating that I the executive favoured the ward ivsioni of | election. j With regard to the resolution carried at the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Conference ! urging the appointment of a gTader to i nettle disputes between growers and millers the manager of the Wheat Board wrote Btatingr that the matter would be kept in view when the next agreement was being drawn up As to the request by the conference regarding the appointment of an independent grader, the chairman of the Board pointed out that the last two agreement* had contained guch a provision, and those growers who insisted on obtaining the official Wheat Board coatract had the right to the services of an independent grader in a case of dispute as to kind, quality or condition. The chairman said the agreement between the millers and the growers had not yet been signed, and when attending the next meeting in Cbrietchnrch he would put the matter of a price for uad«rgratfe wheat before it. Messrs J. Brown, A. P. Bruce, and Dalton were appointed to represent the esecutive at the forthcoming conference, A letter was received from Mr J. TV. Collins, secretary of the Department of I n . ilustries and Commerce, regretting that he was unable to advise as to the quantitv of of the current season's wheat which had been purchased by millers.
