CHEMIST CHARGED.
ALLEGED FORGED ENTRY IN POISON BOOK. (PXESS ASSOCIATION TZLZQKAX.) AUCKLAND, August 10. "Accused was using far more opium than any other chemist in' Auckland," said Chief-Detective Cummings this morning in the Magistrate's Court, when there was preferred against Frank Leslie Anderson, alias G. T. Wallace, the unusual charge that at Auckland on about December Ist, 1924, he did forge the name of Al Gillon in the retailer's opium book kept by him (accused) in accordance with the regulations made under the Opium Act of 1908, with intent that it should be acted upon as genuine.
In outlining the case, and asking for a remand until August 17th, ChiefDetective Cummings said Anderson was a chemist -at Devonport. In consequence of complaints being made to the police of forgery in the opium book, enquiries were made, and the police found he was using more opium than any other chemist in Auckland. Accused then came to know that proceedings were pending, and skipped to Wellington, where he was arrested just as the steamer was leaving for Sydney. He was then using an assumed name.
Accused was allowed bail in the sum of £2OO ou condition that he reported twice daily to the police. Anderson (from dock): May I have' my name suppressed ?
