THEATRE ROYAL.
"WILDFLOWER." Ths J. C. Williamson success, "Wildflower," was presented to another big and enthusiastic audience at the Theatre Royal last evening. "Wildflower," which is something more than a musical comedy, was written "by Otto Harbach and' Oscar Hammerstein, the music being competed by Herbert Stothart and Vincent Youmans. The book is bright, and the comedy is such as to keep one thoroughly amused throughout the three acts. The music is one of the most taiing features of the play, and some of the numbers arc sure to be remembered long after the company has gone on its way. "Bamba'ina," r, spirited .peasant dance, is perhaps the most striking of these, with its sprightly staccato melody, which is introduced in each of the threo acts with effect. Then there is "Wildflower," sung by Mr Herbert Browne and a male chorus, "April Blossoms," "Casimo," and other catchy piece 3. The mounting and costuming are in the Firm's best style, and the three scenes are a blaze of colour. The first is an Italian landscape, in which groves of fruit trees are seen growing at the foot of a purple mountain, in the foreground being an at>ple tree heavily laden with.Tosy fruit. The 6«cond scene is of a mansion overlooking a beautiful lake, and in connexion . with it some magnificent frocking is seen, which harmonise* pleasingly with the coloured uniforms of a, number of military officers. The 'impression made by Miss Burke was a success from the outset. Dark, and with .a- lithesome figure, added to which is a charming personality, a tuneful voice, and an ability for aoting, this artiste has all the qualities which distinguish the star from the lesser members of a cast. As Nina, she was at times the impatient, bad-tempered little virago, and at other times a tender-hearted girl, beloved of all with whom she came in contact, except," of course, those in whose way she stood between them and the fortiin? they desired. "Wildflower" will be repeated to-night. '
