BOXING.
CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB. CADMAN V. PARKER. Both Eddie Parker and Laurie Cadman report themselves in the pink of condition for their bout at the King Edward Barracks to-night, and the contest looks like providing one of the beet ever witnessed in a Christchurch. boxing ring. ■ Physically the men are well matched, and as both are good, clean, open fighters, spectators may expect to see a 'few. thrills when they meet. Parker numbers amongst his victories in the ring those over Heeney, Max Gornik, and Brian McCleary, while Cadman also boasts a knock-oub victory over McCleary. The Christchurch Sports Club has been very lucky this year in its choice of contestant* for its big bouts, and its latest attempt to provide good sport shows, every sign of being «, huge success. The best of the Christchurch amateurs will be seen out in the preliminary events, a.nd here again spectators will receive full value for their money. There ehould be a record crowd present when the boxing opens to-night.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Sports Club was held last evening, Mr M. Ballin presiding. There were a'.ss present:—Messrs J. M. Coffey, R. A. Draper, A. Jones, A. L. Talbot and G. H. "W. Gale. A letter was received from 0. Armstrong, asking for a match at the end of the month. ~ ~, ... . Mr W. Page wrote, accepting the position of referee for to-night's tournament.Clarrie Blackburn wrote offering to meet Curl Calloway for a -purse of £IOO, and Calloway offered to meet Blackburn for £SO. Ern Baxter wrote offering to meet Calloway for a purse of £IOO and £ls'expenses. Calloway also wrote offering to meet Baxter for a puree of £IOO and. £lO expenses. Brian McCleary wrote stating that he was prepared to meet Gornik for a purse of The letters were referred to the Competitions Comimitt«D. It was decided to present a pair of secondhand gloves to the newly-formed Waiau Sports Club, and the question of affiliation was left in the hands of the secretary. It was also decided to supply the information required for affiliation to the North Canterbury- Sports Club. _ • Mr ArthunM. Fisher. D.C.M.. M.M., ex-bantam-weight champion of the British Array »from 1912 to 1917, was appointed as a judge. The jSew Zealand Boxing Council wrote stating that it was' negotiating for the visit cf an Australian amateur team to Zealand. The Council wished to know if the Christchurch Sports Club was prepared to accept the responsibility of hold; ing a tournament in which the. New land champions would meet the visitors. The cost of assembling the teams would ba £350, and it was asked if the c'ub would be prepared to give a guarantee towards this sum. The Cocuncil considered that it would be unwise to send the boxers to more than one town. The chairman said that if the tournament was held in Christchurch, it would mean a serious loss. It ww resolved to advise the Council that the offer could not be accepted. The chairman reported thai both Cadman and Parker were in excellent form for tonight's contest.
