GREAT NORTHERN MEETING. (■PECIIL to "raz PEisa.") AUCKLAND. June 2. The weather remains dull and doubtful, but the Auckland Racing Club's proverbial luck encourageg hope for the opening ot the Great Northern Meeting. The Waikato and country horses have all arrived.' Th*ra will be comparatively few defections, and the fields may be above the average. Serene may be favourite in the First Division ot tho Jervois Handicap, in which Royalform, Gay Comet, and Chaplin will also bo backed. In the Second Division, King Smock reads well, and has pleased in his work. Sleepy Sol will have lots of friends on his work. Transformer, Drolatique, and Constellation arc in favour. King Abbey and Bonibrook will carry most support in the Green Lane Steeplechase, and Blue Hall may thow improvement. Trespass will take a lot of beating in the. Penrose Hurd'.rs. Cureaform and Kamehameha. may be the next best. Black Art, Narrow Neck, and Lucullent are on the card, but' have been scratched, and Peter Amans and Ycun<* Thurnham arc dcubt'u! starters. Comical may be favourite. His jumping this morning was cot any more pleasing than his Monday's display. Of the lighter weights, Savoury may make mat'er? hard for Sir Roseberrv, Boomerdar, and H'ighwav. Twentyfour remain in the Cornwall Handicap. Income and Mu-ketoon should carry their imposts well, and Gsla Day may possibly be their hardest opponent above 8 10, but Do'.eful Ditty, Barometer, and perhaps Far North, each on the 8 1 mark, may prove troublesome in the soft going. Llewel'.yn and Bourn may prove the best of the Hunt Club Hurdles lot, and probably King Amans and Ka-wini, uractically beginneis, may shape well. For the Members' Handicap. Broadwood's imptwt, now 10 6, looks heavy, but he and Lady Ridicule are both well, and it wi'.l take Archeen and Yoma all their time to beat them. Joy Fade is a probable, and York Abbey is sura to have a fair "Waikato following.
