CAPE TOWN, May 11,

The General Council of the South African Mine-Workers' Union has decided to take a strike ballot in connexion with the report of Mr Justice de Villiers, who acted as mediator at the Mines Conciliation Board, and who favoured the itiiners' application for an increase of wages by 20 per cent., retrospective to the beginning of last October.

The- mine-owners opposed the granting of the increase.

' Non-unionista will be allowed to participate in the ballot.

Union officials will also bo instructed to get into touch with enginedrivers and to consider means with a view to forming 'a federation of white employees in tho mining industry.
