The Minister of Education, Sir James Parr, was in Ne\j/ Plymouth to-day, his principal engagement being the opening of the ne/V school at Westown. The school, whj/ch hap recently been completed in a/ growing suburb, is built on modern lines and is up-to-dato in every, respect. The Minister also held a conference with the High School and Technical College Boards, to discuss a/scheme for the amalgamation of the/two schools. 'He strongly supported tfhe scheme and promised to support th/a matter when it was before the Cabinet. He said he would like to see ,-amalgamation taken up in other towns, as it would avoid overlapping/ and would enable pupils who were not suited to studies at high schools/' to take a course at technical school;.. The scheme involves new buildings, at the Boys' High School costing #IO,OOO, and pending Cabinet's 'approval; it is held up. It will mean that ; a!l the pupils at the technical College, will go to the' High School, -which ;,vill cover the class of work now being ,'dbne at the Technical College;
