A verdict of accidental drowning was returned at a Coroner's enquiry, to-day concerning the death of Eobert William Pearce, aged two years, . whose dead body was found by his mother in a creek at Ruatangata yesterday afternoon. The child had been missing from homo for only a quarter of an hour. PALMERSTON NORTH, April 29.

At the inquest on Cliye Tweeddale,. aged 22, who died of injuries received, from being knocked down by a motorcar on Monday evening, evidence showed that the man was deaf, and failed to observe the approach of a motor-car whose lights were dimmed on approaching a railway crossing. The visibility was bad and the motorist, who was on the look-out for a train, did not see Tweeddale until he was upon him. The. Coroner commented that it was a pure accident. The motorist was driving carefully. He stressed the .need of the public exercising caution while crossing the road, especially at night. An inquest was held on John Murphy, a linesman, employed by the Power Board, who fell from a transmission pole at Fcilding on Friday last and died on the. way to the hospital. The Coroner's verdict was that Murphy died of a broken neck, caused by a fall. The Coroner commented that deceased had failed to observe a definite instruction issued by all .employers in not having worn a body-belt on the pole.
