A CRUSADER'S GRAVE.
UNIQUE DISCOVERY IN JERUSALEM. Major-General the Hon. Sir Francis Bingham, Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey, has communicated to the Jersey Society a letter received by him from Sir Ronald Storrs, Military Governor of Jerusalem, announcing the finding of the only known grave of a Crusader. The grave is that of Philip Daubigno, Governor of the Channel islands, one of the Councillors of King John at the signing of Magna C'harta and tutor to the Young King Henry 111. He visited Jerusalem in the train of the Emperor Frederick ' 11., 1-29, and died there in 123 G. The grave, which was covered by a stone platform, is almost directly in the entrance to the Holy Sepulchre. It bear s the coat of arms of the Crusader and nn inscription, which though still legible, is bound to be worn away unless steps are taken for its preserva? tion. General Storrs states that- it is hie intention to preserve this unique monument, and he appeals to the Channel Islanders and to the descendants of Philip Daubigne. if any, to contribute in order to assist in reforming this limt between the Channel Islands and the Holv Citv. The matter has been taken up by the Jersey and Guernsey Societies, and the English authorities are to be approached.
