UNION PRIVILEGES.
A UNIQUE CLALM,
(austkaliax axd x.z. cable association.,) PERTH, March 27." A unique development occurred in Frcmantle waterside circl s when men who, until the present shipping rush provided them with casual work, classed themselves as the unemployed of Frcmantle, went on strike against further wharf work until such time as tho Frcmantle Wharf Lumpers' Union admitted them to membership. The unemployed claim that as the lumpers in slack periods join the ranks of unemployed and pick up any casual work offering, they, the unemployed, should be allowed similar privileges in connexion with membership of the union. . The secretary of the Lumpers' Union says that it was recently decided to restrict membership, as it was considered, tailing tho average demand, that the union was strong enough to cope with the wharf work.
