TREATMENT BY RADIUM.
AN IMPORTANT DISCOVERY.
(bt cable—press association—coitright.) (australian ait) jt.z. cable as3ocutiok.) LONDON, March 26.
A scientific discovery of far-reaching character in connexion with the radium treatment of cancer and other diseases has been made by the Middlesex Hospital. It consists of capturing emanations of radium, purifying, condensing and bottling them in small glass tubes with an interior as thick as a human hair. Each tube contains sufficient for one dose.
This radium gas* is called raden. It it possible to multiply by thousands, the curative value of any given quantity of radium. Hitherto the Middlesex Hospital, though a larger holder of radium than any hospital in the world, has been forced to husband its, stock. Middlesex is now inviting applications from other hospitals as the raden tubw are valuable for internal and external treatment in all cases where radium itself is used.
Dr. Wright, a London surgeon, states that he is of the opinion that 9d per cent, of the cases of cancer could be cured or prevented if persons over 40 years of ago were examined every six months, thus permitting the immediate detection and removal of any growth in its early stages.
