BLUNDERS IN SPELLING.
REFLECTION ON TEACHERS
According to the New South Wales Diroctor of Education, tho spelling of many examination candidates is foynd to be' very unsatisfactory. "It is disappointing," saya the Diroctor, 'Ho find that so many children, at the end ot. their primary school course, arc unable to express "their ideas or reproduce their knowledge without serious and frequent blunders in. spelling, it must be regarded as a grave reflection on the teaching that students, after two or more years in super-primary • or secondary classes, fail to reach the tcqnired standard. "At all future examinations held by the Department, examiners will bo specially requested to take into account the spelling of candidates in all subjects, and inspectors of sch'ools have been asked, when 'reposing upon the efficiency.of a class'teacher, to keepin view the measure of s&ecT£3 achieved ia teaching spelling.
