' . ~ THE VICTORIANS AND GRIMMETT (PRESS 'ASSOCIATION . TBLBO-RUf.) WELLINGTON, March 36. • Members' of the Victorian cricket team repudiate the attacks in Australia, reproduced in New ' Zealand, on E. R. May no, the captain, and Mr Bean, the manager, for allegedly preventing the selection of Grimmett' to represent Victoria. They quote that bowler's performances in his early trials to show that he was not a success; the few wickets he did secure wero expensive. In. a match against Maclaren s team, in which Grimmett took one wicket for 43 runs and one lor 7, Mayne was criticised for not putting Hartkopf on sooner, but the players all knew that ho was trying out Grimmett to give liim' a chance. When Hartkopf was put on he was immediately successful, securing five, wicketa for 23 runs. A member of the team, a club-mato of Grimmett, saul that'to his personal knowledge Mayne gavo Grimmett every chance an the few occasions he had" played, andi this opinion generally was endorsed by the team as a whole.

It is at least being discussed in all seriousness.-
