WEEK-END FISHING.
SALMON IN WAIMAKARIRI. Not a gfeat number of fish was caught at the Selwyn during t'bo woekend, but there wore not so many anglers there as usual, owing to Several being at the Wniraakariri after salmon. Of tlicßo fish, about half a dozen were landed, one being a 20-poundcr. The salmon have not yot commenced to run heavily in the Waimakariri, although a few litlvc been entering the river for a few weeks past. It is too early yet to f)e able to state whether thetc will be a good run this year or not, said an angler to a "Press" man yesterday, speaking of salmon. The year before last, fof in* stance, there was a good run, but last year it was very much smaller. This vear's run ought to start in earnest any day now. The same informant stated that the salmon were unable to get into the Bakaia at present, owing to the state of the bar, which was bad. What was required, he stated, -was a nor'-wester to ifause a fresh in the river and wash out a new channel, up whicli the salmon could enter.
