ANZAC DAY.

TO THE" EDITOR OF "THE PRE<?S." Sir, —At a recent conference of business men held in Christchurch, strong disapproval was expressed that Anzac Day should be held during the week, instead of on a Sunday.' There are hundreds and perhaps thousands of others who hold a similar opinion, the writer included. In the meantime, while April 25th remains a statutory holiday, no alteration can be made, but the time is surely opportuno when business people should approach Parliament when, in session, .endeavour to ..have an amendment made in the direction desired.

Another matter, even far moTe' important than any other in. connexion with Anzac Day, is that no trains are run on Anzac Day, whereas express trains afe consistently run on Good Friday. Surely there cannot be any question as to the sanctity of the two days. Let. Anzac Day 'be observed • on the Sunday nearest to April 25th in each year, when the occasion will be far better observed than it is at present; but if it be necessary to run trains on Good Friday, emphatically let them also be run on Arizac Day, if such is continued to bo rigidly observed on April 25tli, irrespective of the day df the week. I trust other correspondents will take this matter up, and give it the publicity it certainly deserves. —Yours, etc., LAYMAN. February 16th, 1925. '
