Tho great increase in heavy traffic ovor the British roads has mad© the surfaces of wood blocks, macadamised concrete., asphalt, and other processes, wear far less well than they used to do. Tho experiment of rubber blocks round the Cenotaph did not (succeed, as the motor-buses and lorries pushed the blocks out of position on their concrete bed. Now the Ministry of Transport is experimenting with blocks mado of sawdust mixed with creosote.
