SONS OF TEMPERANCE.
NATIONAL DIVISION OF NEW ZEALAND. The National Division of the Sona ot Temperance opened ,ts 26th annual seeslon in Christchurch on Saturday with an attendance of representatives from various parts of the Dominion. The M.W.P., E. G. Devereaux, of Wellington, occupied the chair, and welcomed the delegates, Apologies for absence were received from W. M. Crawley, P.M.W.P., and C. P. Horrell. A vote of sympathy was passed to the latter in his illness, and to member* who have Buffered bereavement during the jear. The officers' reports end balance-sheet were received. The balence-sheet showed the finances of the Order to be » * P strong position, the total funds amounting to over £22,259, or over £4o per member. The cedit balance increased last Year by £1233. The euni paid out in sic* Pay for the past year totalled £431 7. Bd, which is £46 10s 4d less than he prenous year The funeral cairns totaled £UO, a decrease of £IOO on the preceding twelve months. ' , The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows:-P. Goodall, M-TV.P. (Addington); E. Billcliff, A.M.W.P. (Add.ngton); J. H. Jones, re-elected dington); F. Lucas re-e ected M.\\ Ire* surer (St: Albans); I. \>> a /f> *-\ lain (Kaiapoi); C. P. Kendall, M.W Conductor (Wanganui); S. Bolton M.«. Sentinel (Wanganui); F. W. Arnley, M.W. Super, of Juveniles (Wanganui); j. A. Innes (New Brighton), J. lord (Addington), C Kent (Sydenham), re-elected M.W. Trustees; V. Be'dwell (St, A'bans), G. G. Woodham' (Christchurch), re-elected auditors. The newly elected officers briefly thanked members for election, and pointed but the "reat imoortance of strengthening the youngpeople of New Zealand in the principles of temperance. An enlarged photograph of E.G. Devereaux, P.M.W.P., first sister to occupy the M/W.P/s ' position in the Order in New Zealand, was gratefully received by the National Division. The Government Actuary in his quinquennial report congratulated the Order upon its ea:ellent financial position. For the second year in succession the Sunbeam Division was successful in winning the shield, with an increase in membership of H. 4 per cent. A motion was carried giving _'ree sic« ana) funeral benefits to all old members when reaohing the age of GO years. t Provision was made to recognise the services of the P.M.W.P. by presenting a ' P.M.W.P.'s Jewel. Invitations were received from the Sunbeam Division, W'anganui, also from the Progress Division, Kaiapoi, for the next conference to meet there. After discussion it was decided that the 1925 Conference t«ke place in Christchurch.
