GERMAN LIBEL CASE.
♦ APPEAL ON BEHALF OF PRESIDENT. (mx cable—ra»s» as#ociatiok— copnuoxr) (AUSTRALIAN AND X.Z. CABLE ABiOCIATIOK.) BERLIN, December 25. The Public Prosecutor has appealed against the verdict of tho Magdeburg Court which sentenced an obscure editor to imprisonment for libelling President Ebert, owing to the Court finding that President Ebert urged munition workers to hold out during the 1918 strike, and therefore juridically committed high treason. Nationalist and all anti-Repuolican papers are making political capital out of the verdict, and are demanding that Herr Ebert should vesign the Presidency. A significant sequel was when the Vioe-Chancellor, Dr. Jarres, Dr. Streselr.ann and six other members of Cabinet called on the President and handed him a resolution expressing complete confidence in him.
