( NEW APPOINTMENTS.

WELLINGTON, December 26,
The name of the third member of the Railway Board has not yet been announced, but the Minister stated today that tho officer had been selected and Hie announcement would not be long delayed. Mr Coates indicated that it might be expected that the personnel of tho Board would be announced in the statement he contemplated making tomorrow night. In the meantime Mr H. H. Sterling, second assistant manasger of railways, was acting temporarily as the third member of the Board. The position of chief mechanical engineer, which is vacant owing to tho retirement of Mr E. E. Gillon, is being) advertised abroad.
Other appointments yet to bc> made, as recommended by the Commission, are secretary to the Board, cashier,_ and general superintendents of the North and South Islands respectively.
