N.S. WALES RAILWAYS.
A Chief Commissioner at £SOOO a ytear, two assistants at £2500 each, and four Area Commissioners, one to be paid not more than £1750. and the others not more than £ISOO, are proposed in the Railways Amendment Bill now before the New South Wales Parliament. The appointment of the Chief Commissioner and the two Assistant-Com-missioners is retained by the Government ; but it is provided that full consideration shall be given to representations made by the Chief Commissioner in regard to the appointment of these assistants. The duties of the Assistant-Commis-sioners shall be allotted on tho recommendation of the Chief Commissioner. Bach Commissioner is to hold office for seven years. The areas for the Area Commissioners and their d!uties are to be allotted to them by the chief and his assistants. They also will determine their salaries within the limits mentioned.
