CANTERBURY TOURNAMENT. OPENING DAY. The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's Christmas open tournament was begun at the United Clubs eonrts in dull weather yesterday. Rain started to fall *t about 4.-10 p.m. and play was postponed till today at 0 a.m.

Messrs Bennett and Pearce spoke against Sundav piling, but as the meeting was not fX attended it was decided to take no vote on the question. , Mr Bennett cave notice of motion that, 'at an adjourned meeting, to be held on Tucsdav the SClh inst., he would move: "That "the Domain Board refuses permission to any club or persons to make use of the domain for the playing of panics ° n it S was a decided to -grant the Sport. Club the use of the domain on *ew lears Day, and to allow the club to make a charge. After visiting the Domain with a deputation from the Sports Club it Was decided to provide half the cost of the extra material for an addition to the fencing round the track.
