The breaking up function at the North Beach School was presided over by the chairman (Mr E. A. M. Leaver), there being a, number of parents present, A programme of musical items was given by the children. SPRINGBANK SCHOOL. At the anunal prize-giving in connexion with the Springbank School there was a large gathering of parents and friends, and ■an enjoyable afternoon was spent. A medal waa presented* to Nancy Burgess for chamoion girl in the B grade at the athletic sports, held in Rangiorn. recently in connexion with the schools of the North Canterbury district. After the prizes had been presented by the chairman (Mr "W. House) Mr Brock, chief inspector of schools, gave a short address and congratulated the teacher, committee and residents on the general efficiency of the school and surroundings, and also of the nrogtess math in the school. Afternoon tea -was served by the ladies, and the children were treated to sweets and soft drinks.

COOPER'S CREEK SCHOOL.

On Friday last the Cooper's Creek School was the scene of a great gathering from far and wide to \iew the- many picturesque costumes at a. fancy dress bah, and to see and hear the children act and SThg. Tho evening started with the grand march, led bv two tiny schoolgirls, one of whom was an Early Victorian Lady, the other Twink Dye, followed by all the other schoool children in fancy costume, and then came the adults likewise attired. After the grand march waltz was a recitation by little Elsie Garner, who'received an encore. Then followed a very pretty song, "Beautiful Flowers," by all the children in three semicircles, ' ench row holding a garland of flowers, which ewayed to the movements of the children as they sang. This item was received with great applause. Then came a song, "How'd You Like to be a Baby Girl?" by three little tots, Lorna Frahm.. Elsie and Bessie Garner. Other items were welL carried out* particularly the closing ecene, "Good-night," by tho girla in nightdresses and boudoir caps, each carrying candles.

Tho judging of tho fancy costumes was ably carried out by Mr and Mrs Barry, Mr and Airs Elliott, and Miss Dorn.
