THIRD SYDNEY CHARGE PROVED (bt cable—press association— copyright) (australian and n.z. cable association.)
SYDNEY, December 24,
The report of the Commission which enquired into charges of bribery against aldermen on the allegation respecting the regrading of the Bulwarra road, finds that Alderman Burke did make a corrupt proposal to Mr Parnham, manager of the Country Producers' Selling Company, and that the proposal was in response "to an • invitation by Mr Parnham. The term of the commission has been extended to February 14th, 1925. [The Commission previously found that Alderman Walker accepted a bribe of £25 in connexion with the erection of a petrol pump, and that he made a proposal corruptly to obtain money from W. F. Cropley, with respect to Croplev's surrender of a lease. In the case of Alderman Burke, it was alleged that, in order to bring the road outside the Country Producers' Selling Company's premises, which were recently rebuilt, to the level of the new building, the road woidd have to be regraded so as to facilitate the reception of wool and produce. The 3)roposal was rejected bv the City Council. .Mr Parnham, manager of the company, alleged that when he expressed his surprise at the decision to Alderman Burke, the latter said that he (Burke) and three other aldermen, whom he is said to have described as.his followers could reverse the decision. It wag alleged that the alderman' added: The .i°b will cost four fifties. After consultation with the city surveyors the company's proposal was rejected, and the difficulty was overcome by another scheme, which was carried out.}
