[Sir George W. Buchanan, G.C.8., G.C.M.G., G.C.V.0., was British Ambassador to the Russian Court from 1910 to 1917. He had previous diplo-. matic experience in Japan, Austria, Italy, Germany and The Hague. He was made a Freeman of Moscow in May, 1916. .He roturned to England in 1918 and was appointed Ambassador to Italy in 1919. He retired in 1921.]
"'Hie breaking of street lamps _ is again becoming a nuisance to the Waimairi County Council," said the electrical engineer at last night's meeting of the Council, "the Park lighting circuit being the principal sufferer. Two lamps were damaged beyond repair, and Fendalton was put into total darkness the greater part of one night, through boys throwing stones and other missiles." It was stated that the matter had been reported to the police on numerous occasions, but that it was difficult to detect an offence of that sort at night. The Council decided to offer a reward of £lO to persons giving information leading to the cormction of lamp-breakers. "*
